As
a senior tax partner at Eichstaedt & Devereaux, Karisa
Chin brings over 20 years of experience in international and domestic
tax compliance and planning for corporations, individuals, partnerships,
trusts and not-for-profits to the firm’s San Francisco
and Menlo Park offices. She also specializes in corporate mergers
and acquisitions, FAS 109 tax provisions and expatriate tax compliance.
Karisa’s fascination with numbers started when she was
10 years old, yet by the time she finished her sophomore year
at the University of California at Berkeley the science of math
had lost some of its luster. “I spent two years in math
classes with engineers doing theoretical math,” she explains
of her change in heart with a laugh. “I decided that I
wanted to do something with numbers that had a practical application,
so I switched to accounting.”
After graduating from Cal with a double major in accounting
and marketing, Karisa went to work in public accounting and worked
primarily with high technology and biotechnology companies. She
continued her education at Golden Gate University, earning a
Masters in Taxation degree. Karisa remains active in the academic
community by serving as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Haas Academic
Research Foundation.
After seven years at two of the Final 4 firms,
Karisa realized that she could provide better service by being
more involved with her clients. Twelve years ago she switched back
to a local firm prior to joining Eichstaedt & Devereaux LLP.
While
she spent some time working inside a business, Karisa reports
that she prefers public accounting for a handful of reasons. “I
like the interaction with the clients and I like being in an
area that is constantly changing where you are always learning
new things,” she explains. “The work that I do is
constantly changing because each client comes in with a unique
issue or problem and tax law changes occur every year.”
Karisa is a native San Franciscan and has worked and lived all
around the Bay Area. Outside of the office, she stays busy as a
Giants season ticket holder and by chasing her nine-year-old son
around the house and ferrying him back and forth to Little League games and practices.
