“Many
people think that accounting is just numbers,” remarks
Mark Devereaux, “but it’s really not. As accountants
we have to understand the conceptual nature of transactions and
need to be prepared to assist with planning and strategy to achieve
the best results for our clients.
“Working hand in hand
with decision makers and structuring transactions is what keeps
me interested and involved in this business,” he adds. “By having a background in the
numbers you can bring to light many factors that may not have
been considered.”
Mark started in the accounting profession in 1980 shortly after
graduating from the California State Polytechnic University at
San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration and became a licensed Certified Public Accountant
in 1982. He has worked in an impressive array of industries,
including entertainment, manufacturing, retail, oil and gas production,
venture capital, real estate and service firms.
“We have
a fairly diverse client base that typically consists of privately
held companies and their owners, which has also evolved into
helping high net-worth individuals with income tax strategies
and financial planning,” Mark says. “In
order to provide service at this level it requires that you become
very knowledgeable and involved with the business and the families
so that a coordinated approach may be developed and implemented.
Part of the reward I receive from this profession is seeing those
plans come to fruition and our clients reaching their economic
and financial goals as a result.”
Outside of his professional responsibilities at Eichstaedt & Devereaux,
Mark is an avid sports enthusiast who also enjoys fishing and the
outdoors.
